The heat decides
By late afternoon a shaded terrace in July still sits near 30 degrees. Peonies, hydrangeas and garden roses flown in from northern Europe will not survive the day. The flowers that do are the ones that grow here.
What works
Bougainvillea, olive branches, rosemary, lavender, dried grasses, wild carrot, ranunculus early in the season, and roses in restrained quantities. Terracotta, ceramic and glass vessels rather than foam-heavy structures.
Palette
The island gives you the palette for free: chalk white, terracotta, sun-bleached green, deep pink. Fighting it with pastel blues or heavy jewel tones rarely photographs as well as couples imagine.
The most memorable Ibiza tables are usually the least decorated ones. Candlelight, linen, and one strong gesture of colour.
Where to spend
Concentrate flowers where guests spend time: the dinner table and the ceremony aisle. Elaborate arrangements in transit spaces are the first thing to cut.
